The 10 Best Baby Pajamas of 2020

Do you have the perfect pyjamas for your little one yet? Or perhaps you’re looking for something more. We are here to help, no matter what your condition might be.

Baby Pajamas are more than just sleepwear, they should also be comfortable. My children also have “fancier-looking” pyjamas for overnight trips or granny sleepwalks.

From mom to mom let’s help you find your baby’s perfect pyjamas.

Are Baby Pajamas Necessary?

Two-piece pyjamas may not be completely required until your baby gets closer to the infant age.

It’s a great option for newborns and babies to cover them up in all-in-one pyjamas for bedtime. If your baby is asleep moving about, loose clothing could ride over their face and create an unsafe atmosphere.

When it’s cold you should cover your baby in a comfortable sleeping blanket over pyjamas. Perhaps it’s better and you shouldn’t have to cover them with loose blankets.

Using your own body as a guide: chances are your baby may need an extra layer if you feel the need for a jumper or a blanket on the bed.

Should the Pajamas Be Flame Resistant?

When babies start running around, their pyjamas should be safe for flames. Two styles of fire-safe clothing are available — tight fit and flame-resistant. All the sleepwear must be one or the other for older babies and children.

Snug-fitted: This sleepwear will have ribbed cuffs, and is not going to be loose anywhere.

Flame-resistant: Usually, this sleepwear is covered in a flame-retardant material. These should be capable of either fighting a flame or not catching fire.

What to Look For In Baby Pajamas

Material

Babies dress in a breathable material is a good choice particularly for sleeping. Anything like a combination of cotton, like polyester, bamboo, or spandex is preferable.

They are stretchy and flexible and gentle on the delicate skin of an infant.

Size and Shape

One-piece legged pyjamas are a great choice. When your baby is longer than normal, however, they can well outgrow her quite quickly.

Personally, I’ve seen unfooted pyjamas lasts longer. If it is too cold for bare feet you should always put on a pair of socks or knitted booties.

Diaper Changes

A must-have is long zippers, loops or buttons down the thighs. When your child wants a change, just unfasten the pyjama and you’re good to go.

How to Sew Baby Pajamas

You could be inspired to make some pyjamas for your little one if you’re a crafty mum. We have listed a few tutorial steps for you below.

Here’s what you need:

  • Chosen fabric and pattern. Alternatively, measure against a spare shirt from your child’s closet.
  • Sewing machine.
  • Quality scissors.
  • Measuring tape.
  • Pins.

Step One

Pin the bodice right sides around the neck, after cutting out the fabric according to the pattern used, then sew. Lay the bodice out on a flat surface, right side up, as the two pieces are sewn together.

Step Two

Cut a neckband out and split it by pins into four equal parts. Find the neckband core and pin it onto the sewn shoulder line. Then, pin the neckband back.

Stretch the neckband out slightly to cover the entire neckline. Then sew in place: when sewing, you might do need to stretch it a little. Then, the other shoulder button.

Step Three

Place the body now, right side down, and put the sleeve over (right side up). Pull the middle of the sleeve against the edge of the shoulder. Pin the sleeves (like the neckband), then sew them in. On the other leg, repeat.

Step Four

Let the braces out. Pin them into the sleeve using the same neckband and sleeve techniques. Stitch together.

Step Five

Click to bodice the bottom section, the same technique as before. So just knit.

Finally, you want to pin and button the sides of the shirt and the sleeves together with the right sides.

Final Thoughts

We’ve had fun picking our perfect baby and child pyjamas, and hope you’ve found something you want, or maybe a little inspiration too. Maybe you’re going to try to make your own?

The Leveret Footed Pajamas must be a personal favorite to me. Partly because they had the logo written onto the fabric instead of making an itchy tag. Yeah, and they’re also super cool!
